«My heart`s in the Highlands» by Robert Burns

A-chasing the wild deer, and following the roe;
My heart's in the Highlands, wherever I go….
1.

THE LAVROVS ARE HAPPY TO HAVE SUCH A NICE FLAT
Alex Lavrov and his family are going to move to a new flat. The flat is on the
sixth floor. It is quite ready. But the furniture is not there.
Alex and his wife are talking about furniture now. The furniture they have is old-
fashioned. Alex is for modern furniture. But his wife is against. Their daughter
Tanya is also for modern furniture. So it is two against one. They are going to buy
modern furniture after all.
This is what the Lavrovs' flat is like now. It's well-planned. All the rooms are
nicely furnished. The living-room is large and light. The walls are pale green. It has
two large windows. It is very cosy in the living-room. There is a colour television-
set in the corner near the window. In the opposite corner there is a desk and an
armchair. There are usually a few newspapers on the desk. By the wall opposite the
window there is a sofa. There is a water-colour picture above the sofa. It's a still
life. It is of a rich green colour.
There is a bookcase by the wall opposite the doorway. There are a lot of
books in it. The Lavrovs are fond of books. They have some more bookshelves but
they are in the hall. In the middle of the room there is a nice carpet. The bedroom
isn't large. The walls are light pink. There are two beds, a bedside table, some
chairs and a wardrobe in it. There is a grey rug on the floor between the beds.
Tanya's room is just across the hall on the left. It isn't large either. But Tanya
is happy to have a separate room. The kitchen is fairly large. There aren't many
things in the kitchen. There are two tables, a fridge and a cup-board in it. The
cupboard is white with glass doors. On the shelves there are a lot of dishes, plates,
teacups and other things. There are also some stools in the kitchen. There is, of
course, a gas-cooker in the kitchen too. The bathroom is down the hall on the right.
The lavatory is near the bathroom.
The Lavrovs are happy to have such a nice flat. The Lavrovs are in the
kitchen now. They are going to have tea. Alex is looking through a newspaper.
